Monroe Center – Loving Husband, Father, and Grandfather, Raymond G. Hanke, age 77, died Friday, Jan. 20, 2012 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 29, 1934 in Bensenville, Illinois the son to Arthur and Minnie (Glander) Hanke. He married Jean Knoll on June 25, 1955 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lindenwood, IL. He served in the US Army from 1957 to 1959. Ray along with is wife Jean owned and operated the Stillman Valley Gulf Station from 1964 to 1971 and then became affiliated with Sunoco changing the name to Stillman Valley Sunoco Service until his retirement in 1993. Ray loved to do woodworking, yard work, and gardening. He was known to his family as the fix it man.
He was predeceased by his parents and 2 brothers Vernon and Leonard Hanke. Survived by his wife Jean of Monroe Center, daughters Beverly (Brian) Johnson of Byron, and Julie (Terry) Patrick of Winnebago, 4 grandchildren; Megan (Dave Hauger) Thibodeau, Kristen (Mike) Boyer, Shawn and Sara Patrick and 1 great grandson Riley Boyer. Funeral service will be 11:00 am, Wed. Jan. 25, 2012 at the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 136 W. Roosevelt Road in Stillman Valley with the Rev. David Yarrington pastor of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lindenwood officiating. Burial will be in the Stillman Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be Tue. evening from 4-7 pm at the funeral home. The family would especially like to thank the OSF St. Anthony Nuro Trauma ICU Staff. A Memorial fund is established for the Monroe Center Fire Protection District.
