FRANKLIN H. "FRANK" RHODES, 72, of Rockford died Monday January 23, 2012 in Alden-Alma Nelson Manor, Rockford. He was born March 20, 1939 in Paynes Point, IL the son of Clair F. & Emma S. VanBriesen Rhodes. Frank graduated from Stillman Valley High School, where he played football and baseball, and furthered his baseball career by playing on several teams in the area. He was a US Army Veteran serving during the Cuban Crisis. Frank grew up in Holcomb and began his career at the Holcomb Bank, then the Illinois National Bank, and then the F.D.I.C. until his retirement. He was an avid Bears and Cubs fan and enjoyed fishing, camping, and hunting. Survivors include his sons, Craig (Kristin) Rhodes of Sammamish, WA and Mark Rhodes of Wayne, IL; grandchildren, Emily Rhodes, Austin Kappl, and Alexis Kappl; sisters, Madelyn (John) Adams of Rockford and Nancy Rhodes of Rockford; brothers, Rodney Rhodes of Rockford and Gary (Connie) Rhodes of Stillman Valley; and several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held Thursday January 26, 2012 at 1:00 PM in the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 136 W. Roosevelt Rd. Stillman Valley with Pastor Randy Snider officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 11:30 until 1:00 PM in the funeral home. Burial will be in Stillman Valley Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Stillman Valley Cemetery Association or the American Cancer Society.
