Charles N. Miller, age 73, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Feb. 3, 2012 after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Sept. 26, 1938 in Streator, IL the son of James S. and Alberta F. (Harbison) Miller. He graduated from Ottawa High School in 1956 and attended the University of Dubuque and Rockford School of Business. He married Marilyn J. Garard on June 14, 1958 at the Oregon United Methodist Church. He was employed at First American Credit Union in Beloit, Wisconsin retiring in Dec. of 2003. He attended the Oregon United Methodist Church and was a past member of the Oregon Lions Club. Chuck participated in men's basketball and summer fast pitch softball leagues including a traveling team for many years. He also coached Little League and a girl's summer softball team. Chuck was a NASCAR, Chicago Bears, and a Boston Celtics fan. One of his favorite past-times was to walk his Sheltie dogs which numbered seven during his lifetime. He is survived by his wife Marilyn, son David (Elizabeth) Miller of Appleton, Wisconsin, Debra (Mark) Gale, and Susan Rains all of Oregon, brother Sherman J. Miller of Peoria, grandchildren Daniel and Allison Gale, April and Ariel Rains, and Kaitlyn Miller, niece Julie Conroy, and nephews Steven Miller, Scott Miller, and Stuart Miller, and two Great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson Matthew D. Miller. Funeral service will be 3:00 pm, Sat. Feb. 11, 2012 at the Oregon United Methodist Church with the Rev. George Woosman pastor of the Church officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 1:30 to 3:00 pm at the church, a private family graveside service will be held after the service at Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oregon United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or Serenity Hospice and Home of Oregon. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to KSB Clinic in Mt. Morris, the OSF Cancer Care Clinic and the Fourth Floor nurses at OSF Hospital. They also want to thank their caring friends for their prayers. "GOD gives us memories so we may have roses in December." The arrangements are being made by the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home in Oregon.
