Jessie Barnum Hinkle - 91

Jessie Barnum Hinkle, 91, of Oregon, passed away on June 20th, 2014 in Serenity Hospice Home, Oregon. Jessie was born on December 17th, 1922 in Chicago, IL to Jessie (Locke) and George Loyd Barnum. Jessie had one sister, Dorothy B. Willot, who preceded her in death. Jessie married William Hallam Hinkle, March 11th, 1944 in Riverside, Illinois. Her husband preceded her in death on June 24th, 1968. Survivors include: son, William Barnum (Juanita) Hinkle, granddaughter Hana Hinkle-Peterson and “grandson” Colin Peterson, all of Oregon and son Robert Loyd (Kathryn) Hinkle of Clinton, Tennessee.
Mrs. Hinkle was raised in Riverside, Illinois and graduated from Riverside Brookfield High School and the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. She worked as a commercial artist in Oak Park, Illinois, before moving to Oregon, Illinois in 1947. She taught art classes at her own art studio in Oregon called Mar-Jess and in her home. She served as Executive Director of Oregon Community Day Care Center for 13 ½ years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School. Jessie served as past-president and board member of the original Eagles Nest Art Group and a member of the present current group. She also served as a member of the original board of directors for the Rock River Senior Center. Her art has been exhibited in Chicago and throughout the Midwest, including Illinois and Wisconsin.
Her family would like to acknowledge and thank her caretaker, Jeani Harms for the extraordinary care and companionship she provided to Jessie in her final years. Through Jeani’s care, Jessie was able to have the quality of life she deserved and the independence she desired.
A private family burial was held on Wednesday June, 25th at the Riverview Cemetery in Oregon, Illinois. A memorial event is being planned.
