Ronald E. Rentner, 80, of Byron, IL died Wed. Jan. 15, 2014 in his home. He was born April 12, 1933 in Chicago, IL the son of Ralph C. & Wanda P. (Balchuck) Rentner. He married Irene Marie Wesolowski in Chicago on Oct. 17, 1953. Ronald was an Airman with the Air National Guard and was stationed in France during the Korean War. He began his police career as a radio dispatcher with the River Grove Police Dept. and then became a police officer on the Harwood Heights Police Dept. where he held all the ranks, including chief. He retired from the Harwood Heights force as a Lieutenant in April of 1985. Ronald coached with the Dunham Baseball Association for many years, enjoyed camping, and was an avid fisherman. He was also a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Byron. Survivors include his wife, Irene; daughters, Diane (Todd) DePaul of Montgomery, IL and Ann Marie (Dale) Kuta of Machesny Park, IL; sons, Thomas (Rachele) of Elk Grove Village, IL, James (Christine) of Arlington Heights, IL. & Bob of Chicago; grandchildren, Kurtis, Zach, Lucas, & Nate Kuta & Marissa, Christina, Tommy, Kaitlyn, Ron, Jackie, Madison, & Tyler Rentner; brother, Richard (Joanne) of Virginia Beach, VA; sister-in-law, Dorothy Gibson of Wheeling, IL; and several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, George Gibson, Sr.
Christian funeral mass will be held Monday Jan. 20, 2014 at 11:00 AM in St. Mary Catholic Church, 220 E. 2nd St., Byron. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2:00-7:00 PM in the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 506 W. Merchant St., Byron. A memorial fund has been established in his name.
