Caroline E. Cheever, age 86, passed away at Oregon Living and Rehabilitation Center on Monday, August 24, 2026. She was born in Barron, WI on November 19, 1939 the daughter of George and Elizabeth (Whitcomb) Rae. After high school, Caroline married the love of her life, Marvin L. Cheever. Together they built a beautiful life together raising their six children until he preceded her in death on January 22, 1984. Caroline was a woman of faith and enjoyed attending the Evangelical Free Church in Mt Morris. In her spare time, she enjoyed using her creative spirit to sew, quilt, knit, and do needle points. She also loved sitting down with a cup of tea to read the Ogle County Life paper or do a crossword puzzle. She was an amazing cook who loved to feed her family and make sure they felt loved. More than anything Caroline cherished her family. She was a devoted and caring mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings George Rae and Karen Fursetzer. She is survived and missed by her children, Susan (James) Lewis of Knoxville, TN, Marvin Cheever Jr. of Mt. Morris, Sally (Roger) Long of Mt. Morris, Jack (Cindy) Cheever of Rosehill, VA, David Cheever of Oldsmar, FL, and Eugene (Sonia) Cheever Sr. of Oregon; siblings, Sharon Peterson of Grand Rapids, MI, Dennis (Jacquie) Rae of Meza, AZ, and Denise (Jerry) Mattson of Mt. Morris; grandchildren, James Lewis, Heather (George) Murphey, Joseph Lewis, Shane Cheever, Marvin (Amanda) Cheever the 3rd, Matthew Cheever, Justin (Jaclyn) Cheever, Jackie Cheever, Brandon Cheever, Briana Cheever, Jacob Cheever, Kenny Cheever, Eugene (Tayla) Cheever the 2nd, and Bradly Cheever; and 12 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 27th at the Farrell Holland Gale Funeral Home in Oregon with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial will be at Daysville Cemetery in Oregon.
