David Arthur Battaglini

MUNDELEIN, IL ~ David Arthur Battaglini, age 42, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at OSF St. Katherine's Hospital in Dixon, IL.

He was born July 6, 1984, in Rockford, IL, the son of Thomas Battaglini & Barbara (Crockett) Battaglini. David was an easy-going and gentle child. He loved his family and his dogs and had a great sense of humor. He kept all of these qualities as he grew up, especially his sense of humor. He always had a smile, a joke, or a comeback for any situation.

David married Molly Ulferts on Oct. 10, 2009, in Mt. Morris, IL. He worked for Commonwealth Fusion Systems from June 2024 as a mechanical engineer analyst.

David was always willing to help those around him, whether it was a child who needed tools for his lawn care venture, a family member or friend who needed to talk, or a coworker who needed assistance with a project.

David looked forward to and enjoyed his evening walks with Molly and their dog. He loved to care for his yard and had planted apple trees so that he could brew his own cider at home. He recently got into woodworking and furniture making, having crafted his own workbench. David also loved going to punk rock concerts whenever his schedule allowed and enjoyed a beer with his friends and family, especially his father-in-law who shared many memorable conversations and moments with him over a brew.

David’s truest passion in life was that of his family. He was a loving, kind and gentle son, husband, father, brother, uncle, son-in-law, nephew and great friend. He was fiercely protective of his family and friends, always making sure they knew he was there for them.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Battaglini, Grandma and Grandpa Crockett and grandparents-in-law.

David is survived and dearly missed by his wife, Molly Battaglini, sons Griffin and Wes, mother Barbara Battaglini, sister Sara (Battaglini) Gerard, nephew William, parents-in-law Allen & Teri Ulferts, the Battaglini family, aunts, uncles, Balsley “cousins”, very good friends, and loving dog Mabel.

Cremation arrangements are in the care of Farrell Holland Gale Funeral Home of 110 S. Seventh St., Oregon, IL, 61061. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for September 26, 2026 at The Barn on the Hill of 7 IL-72 Leaf River, IL. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to District 75 STEAM Foundation. This organization was chosen because David had a passion for technology, engineering, and math. Supporting local students through the learning opportunities the Foundation provides is a meaningful way to honor his memory while investing in the future of children in our community.
