Leonard Eugene Jones, 87, of Oregon, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 17, 2021 at KSB Hospital, Dixon. Born February 7, 1934 in Oregon, the son of Walter and Ruth (Carr) Jones. He was the 8th of 10 children born to Walter and Ruth. Len was a graduate of Harmony Hill and Oregon High School. After graduating, he went to work for NG Gilbert as a tree trimmer and then entered the US Army and served with the 82nd Airborne Paratroopers. After being discharged from the military, he was hired by Commonwealth Edison as a lineman where he worked for 38 years. During this position, he was always happy to share that “I change the light bulb on Route 2 in Castle Rock!” Len was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Shriner’s International, Oregon Masonic Lodge #420, where he served as Master for one year, and numerous other organizations. Len married his high school sweetheart Gretel Anne Heuerman in 1987 and they shared 33 years of marriage, hardly ever being seen apart from each other. They spent 10 years in Higginsville, Missouri where they were also very active in community services. They renewed their vows on December 9, 2020 with Pastor Dave Rogula, the same Pastor that married them in 1987. Anne passed away on January 17th of this year. Len enjoyed bowling, golfing and solving jigsaw puzzles of which some were glued together and saved as pictures. He even completed a grandfather’s clock puzzle that is over 4 feet tall. Leonard is survived by his nephew, Clifford (Rhonda) Jones and many other nephews and nieces; step-daughter, Kim (Winston Hines) Kruse; sisters-in-law, Wyonne (James) Hegland of St. Charles, Christine (Bob) Johnson of Brooklyn, WI, Sharon Barger of Woodstock and Shelia (Tom) Humble of Deland, FL; brother-in-law, Richard (Phyllis) Heuerman of Stillman Valley; and numerous great nephews and nieces. Also preceded in death by his parents, 9 siblings, and brother-in-law, Bill Barger. Joint Services for Leonard and Gretel Anne will be held at 3:30pm Saturday, May 22 in Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, Oregon with Pastors Michael Hoffman and David Rogula co-officiating, with Military Honors for Len. Visitation for Len and Anne will be 2:00 – 3:00pm Saturday, with a 3:00pm Masonic Service for Len. A private burial in Daysville Cemetery will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Leonard’s name may be made to Oregon Masonic Lodge, c/o P.O. Box 296, Oregon, IL 61061.
