Marilyn J. Paul

Marilyn J. Paul, age 92, passed away peacefully at home on August 31, 2026. She was born on December 21, 1932 in Flandreau, SD the daughter of Arthur and Agnes (Zylstra) Harms. She attended Rockford schools and graduated from Harlem High School Class of 1950. On October 11, 1975 she married the love of her life, Richard Paul and they built an amazing life together. Marilyn was a woman with a strong faith in God and was a member of All Saints Lutheran Church in Byron. She worked as a secretary for various businesses. She was an avid reader with a vast personal library. She also enjoyed working on cryptogram puzzle books. But, most importantly she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Marilyn is survived by her husband, Richard of Byron; children, Susan (Danny) Thompson of Augusta, GA, Sharon Baker of CA, John Merrit of Evansville, WI, Danny Merrit of Chana, and Kathy (Randy) Kirk of Mt Morris; 3 grandson, 5 granddaughters, and several great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, son, David, 2 sisters, 1 brother, 1 granddaughter, and 2 grandsons. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, September 4, 2026 at the Farrell Holland Gale Funeral Home in Byron with visitation prior to the service beginning at 12:00 PM. Vicar Michelle Wandersee from All Saints Lutheran Church will be officiating the service. Burial will at Byron Cemetery.
