Mary Elizabeth Neeld

With great sadness we announce the passing of Mary Elizabeth Neeld. She passed away at home on August 5, 2025.

She was born on May 22, 1954 to John and Rosemary Stelter. Raised in Glen Ellyn, IL, Mary Elizabeth graduated from Kishwaukee College with a B.A. in Nursing. Her work as a registered nurse in pediatrics for more than 28 years brought joy throughout the community, and highlighted Mary’s selfless commitment towards making a positive impact on everyone she touched….she loved the little babies.

Mary was fortunate enough to meet the love of her life David Neeld and they married in 1980 and built a beautiful life together over the next 45 years.

Mary had a passion to serve her community from a very young age, acting as the vice president of the Red Cross Youth regional chapter and programs officer throughout her formative school years.Mary loved music and theater and was a talented singer and thespian, lending her voice to the Glenbard West High School and performing in countless theater productions. Mary later sang professionally at Kings Palace in Wheaton, IL and was awarded Miss Congeniality IL during a brief modeling period.Mary was loved by many, and was a hugely generous and nurturing spirit. Neighborhood “Mom” to countless, she always provided a safe, loving space for family and friends alike.Mary was loved greatly and will be missed by her husband of 45 years David A Neeld, sons Christopher Barber, Brandon Barber, and David L Neeld. Grandchildren Kayla, Mitchell, Jakob, Prestin, Liam and Charlotte, brothers John, James, and sister Sandra.

A celebration of Mary’s well lived life will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025 from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm at Farrell Holland Gale Funeral Home in Byron. A private internment will be held at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Wheaton.
