Melva Jean Johnson, age 94, life long Oregon resident, passed away in the early hours of Monday, August 7, 2023 at Liberty Village in Rochelle. She was born on February 5, 1929 in Rockford, the daughter of Harry and Velva (Argraves) Lindahl. She married the love of her life, Dean Johnson on June 20, 1953 in Oregon, IL. They built a beautiful life together until his passing on December 29, 2017. Melva was a self-made woman who could learn anything she set her mind to. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, painting, and making stain glass which were all skills that she taught herself. She even taught herself how to cut and style her own hair. She loved line dancing with her husband and they were pivotal in starting the group the Boot Scootin Seniors. She enjoyed travelling with her husband and spending time at the water and going swimming. In her younger years she was an avid roller-skater. Survived by her son, Bruce (Teresa) Johnson of Oregon; daughter, Christine (Ron) Ware of Mt. Morris; grandchildren: Sarah (Mike) Rutlin, Jessica (Ted) Hade, Joseph Cox, Jr., Adam Cox, Aaron (Lexi) Johnson and Abby (Justin Cotton) Johnson; great grandchildren, Andrew, Skye, Cheyenne, Oren, Silas, Brennan, Landon, and Jackson; and great great grandchildren, Elliot and Grayson. She is predeceased by her husband, parents, and brother, Roland “Junior” Lindhal. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday August 11, 2023 at the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, Oregon preceded by a visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial in Ebenezer Cemetery, rural Oregon. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Melva's name may be made to Alzheimer’s Research.
