Byron, IL

Patrica A. (Kanode) Hogan, passed away on October 12, 2026 peacefully at home surrounded by her children. She was born January 16, 1931 in Byron to Raymond and Pearl Kanode. She lived in Byron her entire life and graduated from Byron High School in 1949.

Patricia married William “Bill” Hogan on September 2, 1950 at St. Mary’s Church in Byron. They were married for 70 beautiful years. She was a homemaker for many years and enjoyed taking care of her family. She was an amazing cook and baker who always had food ready in the refrigerator any time someone would come visit even if they came unexpectedly. She was known for making the best popcorn and chocolate chip cookies. Her life was her family, and she was a supportive and loving mother and grandmother. Patricia loved watching sports on tv, especially basketball. But her favorite sports to watch were her children and grandchildren playing sports they loved. Pat and Bill could be found hand in hand at as many events for their family as possible. When the nest was empty, she worked in the Byron High School Cafeteria for many years. Patricia was a woman of strong faith and was a member of St Mary’s Church in Byron where she was active in the St Mary’s Guild.

Patricia is preceded in death by her parents and sister Janice, husband Bill, son-in-law Les Smithson, and great granddaughter, Brianna Typer.

She is survived and missed by her children, Randy (Kelly) Hogan of Winnebago, Jeff (Joyce Lask) Hogan of Byron. Kristine (Doug Trussoni) Smithson of Sarasota, FL, and Rick Hogan of Byron; 10 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Serenity Hospice for the wonderful care mom received.

Per Patricia’s request, cremation rites have been accorded and no public services will be held.
