ROCKFORD, IL ~ Richard “Rich” C. Chandler passed away at the age of 82 on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the Neighbors Rehab and Health Care Center of Byron, IL. He was born on April 5, 1944, in DeKalb, IL the son of Richard G. and Mavis (Weiss) Chandler. He grew up in DeKalb and Geneva, IL, attending Geneva High School from 1958-1962. Rich was employed with many companies over the years in maintenance management and construction. The last being Asbury Court Retirement, Des Plaines, IL, where he retired from, making many close friends, before moving to Rockford, IL in 2011. Rich loved anything car related, restoring many over the years. He could fix, repair, or build almost anything. Rich was an artist, working with metals and wood. He carved beautiful walking sticks from random pieces of wood he would find, on which created beautifully, detailed designs. He also made copper bracelets and other metal designs. Rich is preceded in death by his parents Richard G. and Mavis and his brother Jeffrey “Jeff” Chandler, of Aurora, IL. He is survived by his brother Doug (Mary) Chandler of Batavia, IL; brother Scott Chandler of Grand Junction, CO; sister Michele Chandler-Basala of Vallejo, CA; sister-in-law Elizabeth “Betty” Chandler of Aurora, IL; nieces Sarah (Terry) Chandler - O’Connor of Houston, TX; Katherine Chandler of Chicago, IL; and Aleah Basala of Vallejo, CA; Many friends and neighbors in Rockford.
Cremation arrangements are being handled by Farrell Holland Gale Funeral Home of 506 W. Merchant St, Byron, IL, 61010. There are no services scheduled at this time.
