Richard “Dick” L. Dunbar died peacefully on July 24, 2025 in Stoughton, WI at the age of 83. Richard was born on August 22, 1941 in Lee Center, IL to Walter and Amy (née Pankhurst) Dunbar and attended school in Franklin Grove. In 1961, Richard married Kathleen Kreider, and the couple welcomed two children into their home. His family grew further when he married his late wife, Jerrilyn Haas, in 1980. Richard was a truck driver for many years and retired from H&W Motor Express. He was a witty individual who loved to play cards and shoot pool, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and working on cars. He was an active and dedicated member of the Masonic Lodge in Oregon.
Richard is survived by his partner, Dale Mennenga; son Timothy (Rose Marie) Dunbar of Monona, WI; daughters Amy Owen of Eastvale, CA and Dana (Jim) Osgood of Ontario, CA; step-daughters Kimberly Stevens and Cynthia (Rodney) Vulgamott, both of Roscoe, IL; step-son Kevin (Katie) Haas of Kendallville, IN; grandchildren Matthew Owen, Joseph Owen, Nicole Dunbar, Caitlyn (Kyle) Daggett, Michael (Mollie) Huber, and Jonathan (Sarah) Osgood; step-grandchildren Andrea Cox, Adam (Emily) Cox, Keller Haas, Skyler (Grace) Haas, Chandler Haas, and Alic Haas; sisters Donna (Fred) Dennison and Doris (Paul) Walters; and 12 great-grandchildren, with one on the way. He will also be missed dearly by his nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Richard is preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Jerrilyn Dunbar; his parents Walter and Amy Dunbar; and his siblings Robert (Shirley) Dunbar, Walter (Wilma) Dunbar, Jr., and Linda Batissti.
A visitation and funeral are scheduled for Friday, August 1, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. and noon, respectively, at Farrell Holland Gale Funeral Home in Oregon. Pastor Molly Bowen will officiate the ceremony. A reception will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Cork & Tap in Oregon. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Richard’s life.
