Ruth Gibson

Ruth Gibson, age 83, passed away peacefully on June 8th, 2023 at Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center. Ruth was born on January 28th, 1940 in Rockford, Illinois the daughter of Arvid and Genevieve (Johnson) Anderson. She married Lester “Gibby” Gibson on September 1, 1962 and they built a beautiful life together. She pursued a career in healthcare and worked as a nurse for Swedish American Health Systems as well as Neighbors Nursing Home. She also worked as the bookkeeper for the flooring installation business owned and operated by her husband and herself. Ruth was a member of the Valley Evangelical Covenant Church in Stillman Valley until she relocated to Rockford where she attended Northeast Christian Church. The biggest joy in Ruth's life was her family. Her love for them knew no bounds. Ruth adored being a grandmother and mother. She had a heart full of compassion that she shared generously with those she loved. Ruth was friendly and always made time to catch up with people, both new acquaintances and old friends alike.  She loved attending reunions with both family members and high school friends. In addition to being dedicated to nursing and family life, Ruth had a wealth of hobbies that brought her joy throughout the years. She was crafty and enjoyed painting, coloring, sewing and making beautiful quilts for her family to cherish. Alongside these talents, she was known for her singing and piano playing. In her spare time she enjoyed reading books and cooking. The Rockford Ice Hogs Hockey games were one of Ruth's favorite pastimes as well. Ruth left behind wonderful memories that will be cherished forever by those who had the privilege of knowing her. She was a treasure whose caring, warm, and loving spirit will be remembered by all who had the joy of encountering her. She is preceded in death by her parents, Arvid and Genevieve Anderson, husband, Lester “Gibby” Gibson, son, David Gibson and brother John Robert Anderson. She is survived and missed by her children, Robert (Angela) Gibson of Beloit, WI, Carol (Michael) Leitz of Loves Park, IL, Matthew (Teresa) Gibson of Joliet, IL, and Donald (Sarah) Gibson of Stoughton, WI; sister, Miriam (Robert) Nelson of Rockford; grandchildren; Arabel Gibson, Jadyn Gibson, David Leitz, Jonathan (Theia) Leitz, Abigail Leitz, Katherine Gibson, James Gibson, Grace Gibson, and Kyle Gibson; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be 11:00 am, Thursday, June 29, 2023 at the Valley Evangelical Covenant Church in Stillman Valley. Burial will be at the Stillman Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm, Wednesday evening at the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 136 W. Roosevelt Rd. in Stillman Valley, IL. A memorial fund is established for the Valley Evangelical Covenant Church, Northeast Christian Church, or the Rockford Rescue Mission.
