Thomas Lon Mahon

Thomas Lon Mahon of Byron, Illinois passed away on December 4, 2022, in the company of family.  He was born on July 21, 1941 in Berwyn, Illinois. He was 81.  Tom grew up in the Chicago suburbs.  He graduated from Maine Township High School in 1959.  He married Jean Wobbe in 1959 and they settled in Des Plaines, Illinois.  Tom graduated from Northwestern University before launching his career as a mathematics instructor and later Department Chair at the Maine Township High Schools South and East.  While teaching, he coached cross country and track for many years.  Tom was elected to and served four years as Treasurer and 12 years as Park District Commissioner for the City of Des Plaines.  Tom retired to Ogle County, Illinois where he met and married Dorothy Albright in 2005.  They were members of the United Church of Byron, participated in the Lions Club of Leaf River, Illinois, and travelled frequently.  Tom is preceded in death by his parents Alonzo Thomas Mahon and Arthur and Virginia Clausen, his brother Scott Clausen, his granddaughters Emily and Lisa. He is survived by their children Thomas Jr (Christine), Jane (Jeffrey) Underwood, David (Amber), Donna (Patrick) Jones, James (Jo Ann), Deborah (Larry) Pierce, Julie (James) Chadwick, Robert (Patricia) Albright, brother Arthur (Wanda) Clausen, nieces, nephews, 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and many friends.  Funeral service will be held Thursday, December 8, 2022 at the United Church of Byron with the Rev. Tyler Spellious pastor of the church officiating.  Visitation will be help prior to the service from 9:30 am to 10:45 am at the church.  Burial will be 2:00 PM at the Chapel Hill Memorial Park in Freeport, IL.  A memorial fund is established in Thomas Mahon’s name for the United Church in Byron and the Prairie View Assisted Living in Winnebago.
