Zita Stanley

April 19, 1941 — February 4, 2025

Greenwood, Indiana

Zita Stanley, 83, passed away on February 4, 2025, in Greenwood, IN. She was born to the late Raymond and Madge Bublitz in Chicago, Illinois on April 19, 1941.

Before moving to Greenwood, Zita lived in Lakeland, FL, for 43 years, where she enjoyed maintaining a beautiful yard and home, always ensuring her surroundings reflected her warmth and care.

Zita embraced life fully, sharing special moments with her sons, Jeff and Greg, through biking adventures, tennis games, playing catch, attending their many sporting events, and making unforgettable memories on special trips together.

A lifelong learner, Zita was valedictorian of her high school class and earned an A.B. with distinction from Bradley University ('63), an M.A. from Purdue University ('65), and an M.S. from the University of Wisconsin–Stout ('76). For 30 years, Zita dedicated her career to education as a librarian at Lakeland High School. She was also the author of Lakeland High School 1889-1999, a testament to her commitment to her work and passion for research.

Zita enjoyed exploring the world, traveling extensively across the United States and internationally, visiting over 30 countries. She was an active member of many book clubs and an avid photographer. She also enjoyed camping, walking with friends, and tending to her landscaping projects.

She lived by the words of the old Methodist hymn, Brighten the Corner Where You Are, always seeking to make a difference in her community. This was evident in her volunteer work, which included the Polk Theatre, AmeriCorps, Lakeland City Nursery, West Area Adult School, Circle B Ranch, International Students, Inc., and Habitat for Humanity. Her generous spirit and unwavering dedication touched many lives.

Zita is survived by her son, Jeffery (Julie) Stanley of Greenwood, IN; son, Gregory Stanley of Ft. Myers, FL; six grandchildren, Ethan, Clementine, Jason, Meghan, Jacob, and Joel; her brother, Bruce (Rita) Bublitz, her nephew, Erich and niece, Brittanny.

The family would like to thank Grand Brook Memory Care of Greenwood, IN, for its loving care of Zita.
