Doris May Glade Vogel, age 97, passed away on November 16, 2020 at Medina Nursing Center in Durand, IL. She was born on December 31, 1922 near Adair, IA the daughter of Walter and Jessie (Coleman) Glade. She graduated from Creston schools. She married Charles Frances Vogel on November 27, 1941 in Creston, IA. He preceded her in death in 1996. Doris was involved in many different things throughout her life including Descendants of the Mayflower Society, National Society of New England Women, Thomas Rogers of the Mayflower Society, National Society Daughters of the War of 1812, American Legion Auxiliary, American Gold Star Mothers, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Ogle County Historical Society, Society of the Descendants of Washington’s Army at Valley Forge, National Society of Andersonville, and the Ogle County Genealogical Society. Doris was passionate about genealogy and was a certified genealogical record searcher and had a registered genealogical research library and office in her home that was free to the public. She was listed in the “Who’s Who’s” in genealogy and wrote a column for area newspapers for several years and taught genealogy at Kishwaukee and Rock Valley College.  She also spent her time volunteering as a fireman for the Lynn-Scott-Rock fire dept, as an election judge for Scott Township, and Ogle County Hospice. She is survived by her children, Charlie (Donna) Vogel of Omaha, NE, and Ronnie Swenson of Pecatonica; grandchildren, Laural, Dustin, and Shane; great grandchildren, Miranda, Mason, Isabella, Garrett, and Leon; sisters, Betty Griswold of Chariton, IA, Iva (James) Kenagy of Zephyrhills, FL, and Vi Noerenberg of Antioch, IL and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons, Donald and Thomas, granddaughters, Andrea and Sarah, and siblings, Raymond, Marinous, Charles, Leanna, and Laverne. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday November 21, 2020 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Byron with Father Rich Rosinski officiating. A visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 AM prior to the service at the church. Social distancing and mask will be required during the visitation, mass, and burial. The mass will also be lived streamed for those who would prefer to watch from home. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Byron. Memorials are established for St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Serenity Hospice & Home, and the Rock River Center.
