Doyle D. King, age 71, passed away on Saturday December 19, 2020 at 3:54 a.m. at Generations at Neighbors nursing home in Byron, IL with his daughter Sylvia by his side; after he was very recently put into hospice care with Serenity Hospice. Doyle had Alzheimer's and recently Covid-19. Born March 2, 1949 in Holcomb, Missouri to Delbert and Ethel (Bradshaw) King. He worked many years at Ello Furniture Company until its closing. He lived most of his adult life in Rockford, IL until moving to Byron, IL. He had been married and then divorced to Colleen (Dauenbaugh) Simmons and Rose (Howard) King and lived with partner Brenda Bankes until her passing. Doyle loved to fish and crochet prior to his cardiac arrest. He made and gave away many crocheted afghans. His daughter Sylvia continues to be thankful for the Byron Fire Department and Rockford Memorial Hospital doctors and staff for saving his life. Doyle started walking a lot after his cardiac arrest. He was known in the Byron area for his walking from and around the Rock River Terrace and into Byron, Oregon, and even Rockford. Doyle is survived by his son Robert “Gene” King of Pomona, MO; his daughter Sylvia King of Mt. Morris, IL; and sister, Sandra (James) Johnson. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Daryll King, Jim Durham, and Cork Durham; sister Joyce Henson; partner, Brenda Bankes; and ex-wife Rose King. Graveside services will be held Monday December 28, 2020 at 12:00pm at Byron Cemetery, 405 East 5th street in Byron, IL; assisted by Farrell Holland Gale Funeral Home and with Randy Snider from Cornerstone Family Church officiating. Service is open to the public with masks and social distancing required due to Covid-19.
