Martha Schneider

Martha A. Schneider, 89, of Byron, IL passed away on December 14th, 2020 into the loving arms of God surrounded by family. Martha was born at home in Pine Rock Twp. Oregon, IL on August 12, 1931 the daughter of Martin and Gertrude (Zell) Engelkes, last child of 13, her nickname was Babe. On December 19, 1953 Martha married Warren Schneider and celebrated 62 years of marriage before Warren passed in 2016. She attended Limerick School located on Brick Road, Oregon, IL.  Martha served the community as a Cub Scout den mother for years.  In her younger years, Martha worked at a Oregon Manufacturing Co. and a toy factory in Oregon, IL.  After marriage, she worked at Kysor of Byron and Caron International, Oregon for many years.  Warren and Martha spent many days and evenings with Chuck and Gladys Bright playing cards, marbles, and enjoying leisure time on their homemade pontoon boat.  Nephew Clarence Morris and family were always special to Martha; she visited often and never left hungry.  Martha kept herself busy sewing, knitting, crocheting, and crafting.  Warren and Martha spoiled the grandkids by taking them for rides around the countryside looking for birds and animals; they always brought the kids back home filled up with pop, chips, and candy, all of the “stuff” their mom’s and dad’s would not let them have at home. After the grandkids got older Warren and Martha enjoyed their time taking small trips around the region.  Some of their favorite spots were the Mississippi River locks watching he eagles, Upper Peninsula of Wisconsin, Wisconsin cranberry bogs and Horicon marsh. More than a few times they got stuck on old logging roads and that is when we insisted that they carry a cell phone.

Martha is survived by children Dennis Schneider, Byron, IL, DeAnna (Tim) Fidder,  Belvidere, IL, Grandchildren; Mona (Chris) Brown, Mary (Dan) Davenport, Stephanie Schneider, Carl (Sarah) Schneider, Joshua (Lindsey) Fidder, Rebekah (Wade) Posusta, Bridgette Fidder; 7 Great-grandchildren; 4 Great-great grandchildren.  Predeceased by parents, husband, sisters Amanda Davison, Viola Morris, Elizabeth Mowers, Helen Wernick, Gladys Bright, Elsie Isenhart; brothers Albert and Arend,; infant siblings Albert, Ella Mary, Georgia May, Gertie J., son Monte Nance,  Great–great Granddaughter Ivy.

A Private family visitation and service will be held at the Ebenezer Reformed Church, 2997 N. German Church Rd, Oregon, IL; burial in Ebenezer Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Serenity Hospice and Home, Oregon, IL
