Richard "Dick" William Johnson, 82, of Byron died Friday November 15, 2013 at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford, IL. He was born on April 23, 1931 in Rockford, the son of Hilmer and Harriet (Olson) Johnson. Dick married Jeanne Pihl in Rockford on June 23, 1956; she passed away in 1991. He was an Army Veteran who served in the Korean War and worked for many years as a foreman at Banner Tool and Die in Rockford. In his spare time, Dick enjoyed golfing, camping with his family, building things, and being a Mr. Fix It. He is a member of All Saints Lutheran Church in Byron. He is survived by his daughters, Lisa Johnson of Byron, Laurel (Jeff) Logas of Bradenton, FL, Carol Lynn (Mark) Hart of Rockton, and Lesli (Chad) Haines of Winona, MN; grandchildren, Andrew William Hart, Jacob Johnson Haines, and Jeananne Grace Haines. He was also predeceased by his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013 at 10:30 AM in the All Saints Lutheran Church in Byron with the Rev. Marilyn Hanson officiating. Burial will be in Willwood Burial Park, Rockford. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM Monday at the Farrell- Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 506 W. Merchant St., Byron. Memorials are established for All Saints Lutheran Church or the Nature Conservancy.
