Robert Smith

Robert M. Smith, age 65, passed away on Friday November 25, 2022 at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford. He was born on November 8, 1957 the son of Robert and LaVaun (Rosenbalm) Smith. Robert proudly served in the US Navy. After his time in the service, he went to mechanical school and began working at Woods Manufacturing in Oregon. In his spare time; Robert enjoyed being outdoors especially hunting, fishing, and working on conservation efforts with his son planting trees. He was an amazing cook and was known for smoking meats. He loved listening to 70’s rock music loudly and had a good singing voice when he would sing along. Robert was someone who you could always count on to help. He enjoyed spending time with his cat, Socks. More than anything, Robert was a family man. He loved being a father and grandfather and could always be found at their sporting events being their biggest fan. He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived and missed by his sons, Joseph (Lisa) Smith of Oregon and Ricky (Tessa) Smith of Dixon; sister, Vickie (Dean) Stafford of Port Orange, FL; mother of his children and good friend, Diane Smith of Oregon, IL; grandchildren, Lincoln, Weston, Cohen, Maverick, Marcus, and Myles; step grandchildren, Mason and Mia; good friend, Greg Ebens; brother, Timothy Smith; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial visitation will be held from 3:00 - 5:00 pm on Friday, December 2, 2022 at Farrell Holland Gale Funeral Home in Oregon. A celebration of life gathering will follow from 5:30 - 8:30 PM at Pavilion at PrairieView Golf Club; 6734 N German Church Rd, Byron, IL 61010.  In lieu of flowers memorials are established in his name to be put towards conservation efforts in our area.
