Dorothy O. Ulferts, 92, of Oregon passed away peacefully on Friday, October 18, 2019 at Pinecrest Manor in Mt. Morris, where she had resided since 2016. Born June 29, 1927 in rural Oregon, the daughter of Rudolph and Jacoba (Oltmanns) Mammen. Dorothy attended local schools, graduating from Oregon Community High School in 1945, the first in her family to do so. Following graduation, she worked for the local electric company until marrying Jacob Henry Ulferts, Jr on April 18, 1946. They made their home in Oregon, and after the birth of their children, Linda and Allen, Dorothy re-entered the workforce as a secretary for Ogle County Cooperative Extension Service. She later worked for many years as an administrative assistant at the former Wood Bros., now Blount International, where she retired from in the mid-1990s. After the death of her husband in 1997, she spent many hours volunteering and helping others, especially with the SHIP program at Ogle County Senior Center and the county animal control department. Until she was in her late 80s, Dorothy was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Oregon, where she enjoyed WELCA and the quilting group. Throughout the years, she also served as a 4-H leader, room mother and den mother. She was a former member of Eagles Nest Art Group and a current member of Oregon VFW Post 8739 Ladies Auxiliary. Dorothy is survived by her children, Linda (Earl "Butch") Masters of Bull Shoals, AR and Allen (Teresa "Teri") Ulferts of Mt. Morris; her granddaughter, Molly (David) Battaglini of Mundelein; two great-grandchildren, Griffin Jacob and Wes Alec Battaglini; brother-in-law, Bill Ulferts and many nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her husband, Jake; her parents; and her siblings: Henrietta Yount, Anna Huff, Henry Mammen, Jennie Yount, Melvin Mammen, Marjorie Holtapp and Rudolph Mammen, Jr. Memorial services will be held at 11:00am Saturday, November 23, 2019 in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Oregon preceded by a visitation beginning at 10:00am. Pastor Rich Tomlinson, of the church, will officiate. Private burial in Ebenezer Cemetery, rural Oregon. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Pinecrest Manor.
