The world became a little less bright on Sunday, Feb. 28th, when Jean Barnhart passed away. Born Regina Veronica Ogden, daughter of William and Ann V. (Murphy) Ogden, on March 31st, 1932 in New York, New York. Jean married Donald George Semon in 1947 and together they raised eight children. In 1969, the family moved from Paramus, New Jersey to Mt. Morris, Illinois. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Oregon. Former students of Rahn Elementary fondly remember Mrs. Barnhart, where she served as an aide for many years. Jean had a passion for cooking and was widely known and appreciated for her baking skills in the kitchen. The warmth in her smile and the comfort in her hugs will be missed by everyone who was fortunate enough to experience them.
Jean was preceded in death by husband Donald George Semon; sons, Robert Donald and James Joseph; daughter, Elizabeth (Reilly); son in law, James Cox; grandson, Spenser Cox; great granddaughter, Alexis (Head) L. and husband Donald Barnhart.
She is survived by sister, Grayce Kelley; children, Ann (Douglas) Lombardi, Margaret (Leroy) Saunders, William (Debra) Semon, Regina Christine Cox, Thomas David Semon, Sheri Semon; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Laura) Lombardi, Joseph (Emily) Reilly, Corinne (Donald) Merkle, Michael Head, Lauren (Nathanael) Cox, Angela Semon, Kelly Semon, Tara Semon, Paden Semon, Quintin Cox and Troy Cox; three great grandchildren; step-children, Randy Barnhart and Kathy (Barnhart) Lee.
Christian Funeral Mass will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oregon at 10:30 AM on Friday, March 4, 2016, with interment immediately following in Oakwood Cemetery, Mt. Morris, IL. Visitation will be on Thursday March 3rd, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Farrell Holland and Gale Funeral Home in Oregon. Memorials may be directed to Serenity Hospice and Home, Oregon.
